2018 Passel Estate Chardonnay

Passel Estate2018 Passel Estate Chardonnay

2018 Chardonnay

Margaret River, Western Australia

Freshly cut peaches, jasmine, brioche and roasted nuts balanced by fine white fruit tannin and succulent natural acidity.

    Description

Tasting Notes: Rich aromas of freshly cut peaches, jasmine, brioche, and roasted nuts, laced with finer nuances of white pear, cinnamon and nectarines. The entry is opulent and generous, coating, and textured, yet poised and balanced by finer white fruit tannin and succulent natural acidity. A fine and savoury finish leaves the palate quenched and yearning for more. Drink now for freshness or be rewarded with cellaring.

Winemaking Notes: Our Chardonnay fruit was harvested in the early hours of the morning, loaded into the press cold, and gently separated from its skins. The very slightly cloudy juice was cold settled for a day and then racked. Fermentation took place in French Oak barriques, 35% of which were new. The wine was then left to mature in barrel on its lees for 10 months, with bâttonage occurring every 2 weeks.

This excellent wine from this great vintage has really started to move into a new zone with developing complexity, a significant feature. A richer and generously proportioned Chardonnay with a strong influence of nectarine and butterscotch evident on the nose initially and then extending onto the palate. Cashew and nectarine flavours build with a little creamy nougat and vanillin tones. Has a beautifully dry palate with a chalky acidity that helps extend the finish.

Opulent and full flavoured Chardonnay with plenty of white peach, jasmine and cashew, hallmarks of the variety from this region. There is a biscuit/mealy note and bright acid, which gives another layer of generosity, while maintaining a taut line of balance. Partial malo has also given the wine a subtle, creamy finish and it would be absolute perfection alongside any seafood fare (but specifically grilled lobster with garlic butter).
